Whether you’re heading out to a quick lunch in Rittenhouse or Washington Squares or making a full day out of it in Clark Park, there are no shortage of scenic parks for your picnicking pleasure in Philadelphia. And just like our abundance of lush parks, the city is full of great options for stocking up on alfresco eats like handheld British pies, top notch charcuterie, freshly baked bread and beer to go.

Di Bruno Bros. Bottle Shop
For the past 75 years this cheese and gourmet shop has been providing Philadelphians with unparalleled service and a glorious selection of well-sourced goods. Last week, however, the 9th and Chestnut location (pictured at top) introduced a drink in, take out bottle policy — making them our official favorite. Along with a predictably stellar selection of taps and bottles, the staff here will be more than happy to pair your growler of Yards Cape of Good Hope with a customized selection of cheeses, charcuterie, breads, spreads and pickles.

Green Aisle Grocery
Beginning with a tiny location on Passyunk Avenue, this mini chain of locally-minded groceries (pictured above) is stocked with produce, housemade preserves and artisan goods from the Philadelphia’s most talented makers. With grab and go options like Zahav hummus, bread from Ric’s in Lancaster and farmer’s market fresh fruit and vegetables, this is a one stop shop for crafting your own local spread.

Artisan Boulanger Patissier
Hours are unpredictable at this French-Cambodian bakery but the baguettes, banh mi and viennoiserieare worth a visit regardless. Tofu and pork belly banh mi on a crusty demi baguette are wrapped in picnic-perfect wax paper; croissants are filled with pistachio, chocolate or preserved cherries and sweet cheese. This makes for lovely, no-cutlery-required outdoor desserts.

Stargazy
Philly’s one and only British pie shop is the perfect place to pick up handheld sweets and savories for your alfresco outing. Traditional offerings like beef and onion pies, sausage rolls and cornish pasties are always on deck, but seasonal specials like lamb and spring pea — or even nectarine — pies are big warm weather draws. And while you’re there, make sure to pick up a rustic loaf or two from Mighty Bread Co.
