Host a Down-Home Seafood Boil

Looking for a great way to entertain your guests with a meal that goes way beyond the standard grilled fare? Think about hosting a crab boil in the back yard this summer or fall!

For the best recipe and tips, the catering pros at Jerry’s Kitchen checked with Guy Fieri and the Food Network. Here is Guy’s easy-to-follow recipe for a delicious crab boil that your family and friends will love.

 3 tablespoons vegetable oil

1 pound baby artichokes, about 8 small, trimmed and halved

10 ounces Andouille sausage, cut into 1-inch rounds

1 ½ cups cippolini onions, peeled and halved

1 pound small red potatoes

3 tablespoons crab boil spice mix

1 tablespoon kosher salt

1 teaspoon hot sauce

1 teaspoon ground black pepper

3 bay leaves

1 jalapeño pepper, diced

2 ears of corn, about 1 pound, cut into thirds

3 pounds live crab, purged in water to remove any debris

3 green onions, sliced for garnish, or your favorite fresh herbs

This recipe makes 6 hearty servings.

In a stockpot, heat the oil over medium heat. Saute the artichokes, sausage and onions for about 15 minutes until light in color. Add 12 cups water, the potatoes, crab boil spice mix, salt, hot sauce, pepper, bay leaves and jalapeños.

Cover and bring to a full boil. Reduce heat, add the corn and cover again. Simmer until the corn is tender, about 10 minutes. Add the crab and cook about 7 minutes.

Strain all ingredients through a colander. Plate on a large serving dish or plank. Garnish with sliced green onions or fresh herbs and serve immediately. Delicious with garlic bread!
