Chillin’: 7 Stylish Ways to Keep Drinks Cold Outside This Spring and Summer

Who doesn’t love warm, sunny weather? This is the perfect time of year to move the party outside with all your family and friends. One problem, though: spring and summer temps mean that beer, wine, and cocktails get warm really fast.

At Jerry’s Kitchen we love drinks, we love parties, and we love the opportunity to show you new ways to wow your guests. Here are the most fabulous tips we know for keeping your guests’ drinks deliciously cold this season.

  1. COPPER PARTY TUB

Sure, you could use a plastic or galvanized container to ice down your bottles and cans. But a copper tub adds undeniable elegance to the proceedings. Bonus: copper holds the cold in more efficiently, so that’s a double win. Copper containers come in all shapes and sizes, often with matching trays for displaying stemware.

  1. ENCASE YOUR SPIRITS IN ICE

So simple, so stylish! Grab an empty cardboard orange-juice carton. Using kitchen scissors cut the triangular gable off to create a tall rectangular container that’s open at the top. Fill the container with water, making it about 2/3 full. Toss in a few citrus slices and position on a shelf in your freezer. Now place a 750-ml bottle of vodka, gin or other spirits inside the container. Freeze overnight and voila: your spirits will stay chilled for hours, even outdoors. Pro tip: place the bottle in a bowl to capture H20 safely as the ice melts.

  1. FROZEN WATER BALLOONS

A totally festive way to add color to your outdoor table! Fill balloons with water and freeze overnight. This works best if you use small balloons, so they will nest nicely in containers. Place in large clear bowls and snuggle wine and spirits down in. When the balloons thaw, you can have yourself a fantastic water fight!

  1. PUNCH BOWL ICE RING

Another simple trick that looks very fancy. Fill a Bundt pan or old-school jello ring with water, then add fresh fruit slices, mint or basil leaves — even edible flowers. Pop into the freezer overnight. Perfect for chilling a giant punch bowl filled with your favorite spiked recipe. Pro tip: make the punch just a little stronger so the melting ice won’t dilute its flavor.

  1. FLORAL ICE CUBES

Fill ice trays as usual, then pop in a few rose petals, pansies, nasturtiums or other edible flowers. If you have roses in your garden, they are the best — as they are likelier to be free of chemicals. Alternatively, look for organically grown flowers at your market.

  1. A COOLER THAT’S LITERALLY PART OF THE TABLE

This DIY project is easier than you think. Home Depot has an online video that shows you how to retrofit a picnic table with a long cooler compartment so drinks stay cold all day and all night. Party on!

  1. POP IN A POPSICLE

Here’s a chill twist on the beloved mimosa: use Popsicle molds to make flavored pops with orange, grapefruit, pomegranate or your other favorite juice. Substitute wooden Popsicle sticks for the plastic holders that come with the set. Insert them after the juice has firmed up, about 1 hour after you put them in the freezer. Pop the finished pops into champagne or prosecco for a cool, refreshing summer beverage.
